2010 OC MUSIC AWARDS ANNOUNCES…

SHOWCASE SERIES WINNERS
It was a weekend filled with OC Music Awards Showcase Finals and winners. On Friday night the Best Live Acoustic Finals visited the historic Yost Theater in Downtown Santa. Hundreds of local music supporters gathered to cheer on acoustic acts I Hate You Just Kidding, Billy Kernkamp, Stacy Clark, Marc B and Mike Vitale.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD NOMINEES
The online voting for People’s Choice Award closed late last night. Canvas, Champagne Blvd., Duress, Uh Oh! Explosion, and She Screams Remedy join the list of Awards nominees. The winners of the People’s Choice Award will be determined at the March 6 event by public text messaging to vote.

MARCH 6 PERFORMANCES
The March 6 Awards event plans to be an unforgettable evening hosted by KROQ’s own Psycho Mike with honors and performances by Melanoid, Soul Hustlers, Best Live Acoustic Winner Billy Kernkamp, The Steelwells, BLOK, Best Live Band Winner Dusty Rhodes and The River Band, and The Dirty Heads. Sugar Ray will accept the Orange County Impact Award, we will share in a very special memorial moment for the artists we’ve lost in 2009 and honor acclaimed music critic and historian Jim Washburn with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | BILLY KERNKAMP
He is probably one of the nicest and funniest musicians you’ll ever meet. And trust me he isn’t shy, since he’s dropped his pants and shown me the tattoo on his tush twice during my radio show. If you were at the acoustic finals on Friday, then you noticed his natural stage presence and his charismatic personality as well.

ALBUM REVIEW | “SHE CHANGES FACE” EP
Artist: Matt Kollar and the Angry Mob
They’re known for having backup singers and dancers on stage and playing a multitude of instruments that a non-musician might deem unfamiliar. Huntington Beach-based folk band Matt Kollar and the Angry Mob are changing face. They are pumping up their live show. And here’s a fun fact for you, Matt Kollar and the Angry Mob were the first band to play live on my radio show. This was early last year during the OC Music Awards showcases.

SONG REVIEW | “CRUTCHES”
Artist: Halos
Since I first heard Halos’ song “Pool Hall” off the Scarecrow EP, I knew their songs after that would be definitely worth a listen. Brea-based rock outfit Halos are back in the studio working hard to record either a full-length album or EP, I guess it’s still up in the air. But what I do know is that they are playing the new music at their shows and one song in particular that is standing out has to be “Crutches.”
